Animal Welfare Bill

Animal Welfare Bill - Four Paws

  • A ban on the import of hunting trophies

This Bill has the support of political parties across the House and had previously been voted through the Commons with widespread support. Trophy hunting is a cruel, outdated and abhorrent practice, which targets some of the world’s rarest and most magnificent species, purely for the gratification of the hunter and so they can hang a ‘trophy’ of their barbaric hobby on their wall.

  • A Bill to crackdown on the cruel puppy smuggling trade

This Bill, which again received widespread backing from MPs before the election, would impose new regulations designed to tackle the scourge of puppy smuggling and protect puppies, pregnant dogs and those brutalised by mutilations from future harm.

  • A Bill to end the import and sale of fur

It has been 20 years since Britain banned the production of fur in the UK. Yet since this time the country has continued to allow the import of these incredibly cruel product. It cannot be right that a product we deem too cruel to produce in the UK can continue to be imported into the UK. A ban on the import and sale of fur is supported by the overwhelming majority of the British public.

  • A Bill to end the import and sale of foie gras

The production of foie gras causes unimaginable suffering to millions of birds. Despite a ban on production in the UK in 2006, we still import this cruel and unnecessary product from mainland Europe each year to satisfy the tastebuds of a few, despite opinion polls consistently showing overwhelming public support for an import ban.
