Celebrating International Women's Day

Today, on International Women’s Day, I want to celebrate the incredible women who are making a real difference in our community. Here in Cheadle, we are fortunate to have a team of dedicated female councillors who work tirelessly to support residents, champion local causes, and stand up for the issues that matter. Their leadership, passion, and commitment are truly inspiring, and I’m proud to work alongside them as we strive to make our area an even better place to live.
Tom Morrison MP
Cllr Jilly Julain - Cheadle East & Cheadle Hulme North
Jilly, a leadership coach, cabinet member, councillor, and mother of two, has been working tirelessly for her community for many years. Before becoming a councillor, she was deeply involved in volunteering, helping to support local initiatives and make a difference on the ground. Now, as Cabinet Member for Finance, she plays a key role in setting the council’s budget, ensuring local services are properly funded and that taxpayers' money is spent wisely. Alongside her work for the community, Jilly is passionate about increasing women’s representation in politics, believing that more diverse voices lead to better decision-making. She says, "Women, and other marginalised groups, are used to finding creative and collaborative ways to solve problems and make themselves heard – we need more of that in politics!"

Cllr Helen Foster-Grime - Cheadle Hulme South
Helen, a working mum of three and a passionate Stockport County and sports fan, has spent her entire life in our community—growing up, attending school, and building a successful career in both UK and international industries. She and her husband, a local lad, chose to raise their children here, deeply committed to the area they call home. Motivated by her love for the community and a drive to make a difference, Helen decided to become a councillor to serve and stand up for local residents. She says, "My lifelong passion for our community, my drive to get things done, and my desire to help ordinary people like me inspired me to stand up for our area. I’m not a fan of politics, but putting others first and the many wonderful friends I’ve made through volunteering keep me involved."

Cllr Huma Khan - Cheadle West & Gatley
Huma, a teacher, councillor, and dedicated community advocate, made history as Stockport Council’s first ever Muslim councillor when she was elected last year. Passionate about education and opportunity for all, she brings her experience from the classroom into her work in local government, ensuring that every voice is heard and represented. Huma is deeply committed to championing her community, standing up for residents, and breaking down barriers to create a more inclusive and fairer society. She says, “Representation matters. I want to show that no matter your background, you can step up, make a difference, and help shape the future of our communities.”

Cllr Suzanne Wyatt - Bramhall North
Suzanne, a former teacher and lifelong advocate for her community, has been involved in local politics for over 25 years. First recruited by the incredible former MP Patsy Carlton, she has dedicated her career to serving others and is now proudly representing Stockport as Mayor. With a passion for education and public service, Suzanne has worked tirelessly to support residents and champion local causes. Recently, she presided over an International Women’s Day event at the Town Hall, where she was truly inspired by the incredible women making a difference in Stockport. She says, “Politics is about people. After 25 years, my drive remains the same - to listen, to serve, and to make a real difference in our communities.”

Cllr Dallas Jones - Bramhall South & Woodford
Dallas is a community activist, charity worker, businesswoman, councillor, and dedicated mother - balancing multiple roles to serve the people of Bramhall. She first stepped into politics four years ago, driven by a passion for protecting green spaces and standing up for her local community. Alongside running her own business, she works as a caseworker for the local MP, helping residents navigate complex issues and ensuring their voices are heard. Whether it’s fighting against overdevelopment, supporting local charities, or helping people access the support they need, Dallas is committed to making a real difference. She says, “For me, being a councillor is about championing our community and making sure residents are listened to. I’ll always fight to protect our green spaces and stand up for the people who call this area home.”

Cllr Grace Baynham - Norbury & Woodsmoor
Grace, a councillor, cabinet member, mother, and dedicated community activist, is passionate about creating a fairer society and protecting civil liberties. As Cabinet Member for Transport and Parks, she works to improve local green spaces and make travel easier and more sustainable for residents. Deeply committed to grassroots change, she believes in the power of local politics to give communities a stronger voice in decision-making. She says, “I got involved in politics because I wanted to work to protect civil liberties and create a fairer society. I believe that local politics can be a force for good by devolving decision-making closer to local people and communities.”
