Local MP lobbies for Cheadle Train Station

Tom Morrison, MP for Cheadle, has today written to Rachel Reeves, Chancellor of the Exchequer, asking her formally to commit support to the delivery of Cheadle Train Station, which all agree would be a massive boost for Cheadle Village

Following his letter to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities & Local Government back in August, where there was no guarentee that the tarin station would be built, Tom has reached out directly to the Chancellor, to ask her to ensure the train station project is funded.

Tom says "The proposed train station in Cheadle has been years in the making. Starting with a campaign by the former Member of Parliament, Patsy Calton and through to my tenure, this project has been identified as a vital cog in the future growth of Cheadle Village.

The most recent consultation for the train station, commissioned by the Towns Fund and delivered by the Cheadle Village Partnership, found overwhelming support from local residents and businesses. Many stated that a station would ensure Cheadle Village was better connected to Greater Manchester and would also drive more footfall to the district centre, which is struggling under the costs of rising energy prices and business rates.

It is vital that this station has continued support from the Government and that all promises made up until now are met."

Tom will continue fighting for Cheadle Train Station until it is delivered and the huge benefits for the community realised.
