Cheadle Train Station: Pushing for Progress
Tom Morrison MP has been leading the charge to ensure that Cheadle gets the train station it has long been promised. After years of campaigning by local Liberal Democrats, Tom has worked relentlessly since being elected to make this project a reality.
In recent months, concerns have emerged about delays to construction due to timetable adjustments on the Mid-Cheshire line. - Engaging with Transport Leaders: He has been in regular contact with Stockport Council, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), and Northern Rail, ensuring that any obstacles are quickly addressed.
- Applying Public Pressure: After multiple attempts to get government confirmation that the project was still going ahead, Tom and local campaigners increased the pressure. Thanks to this collective effort, the Government finally confirmed its commitment to the station, ensuring it remains on the agenda.
The campaign for a train station in Cheadle dates back to 2001, when the late Patsy Calton first raised the issue as the Liberal Democrat MP for the area. Now, over two decades later, Tom is determined to deliver on this long-standing promise.
“I know how important this station is for Cheadle,” Tom said. “It will improve local transport links, reduce congestion, and boost our local economy. I will not let this project be delayed unnecessarily. That’s why I’m continuing to meet with Northern Rail, write to Ministers, and work with local leaders to ensure we get the station open as soon as possible.”
