Have Your Say: Ofsted Consultation on School Inspections
For years, teachers, parents, and school leaders have called for a fairer way to assess schools—one that reflects the hard work of staff and gives parents clearer information. The Liberal Democrats have long argued that Ofsted’s single-word judgements do more harm than good, failing to provide the detail schools need to improve.
Now, Ofsted has launched a consultation on changing the grading system. While this is a step in the right direction, many teachers have already raised concerns about the proposals. It’s crucial that any changes genuinely support schools, rather than creating new problems.
Having visited so many of our fantastic local schools, I’ve seen first-hand the dedication of our teachers and the brilliant work they do. From primary schools to high schools, our teachers go above and beyond every day to give children the best start in life. I want to make sure their voices—and those of parents and governors—are heard loud and clear in this consultation.
This is just one part of my ongoing work to improve education in Cheadle. I’m continuing to push for better SEND funding, to rebuild Bramhall High School, and to add a second form at Woodford Primary to ensure every child gets the school place they need.
The consultation is open until April, and I urge teachers, school leaders, and parents to have their say. You can take part by visiting the Ofsted website. If you’d like to share your thoughts with me directly, please get in touch at tom.morrison.mp@parliament.uk.
Together, we can push for a system that works for everyone—because every child in Cheadle deserves the best education possible.
