Statement on the Tragic Incident in Gatley

16 Apr 2025
Statement from Tom Morrison MP

This morning, I was informed of an extremely upsetting incident that took place on Altrincham Road in Gatley. A 93-year-old woman was found deceased at a property, and Greater Manchester Police have arrested a 39-year-old woman on suspicion of murder.

First and foremost, my thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who has tragically lost her life. No one should ever have to experience such a loss, and I know the whole community will share in the sense of shock and sadness at today’s news.

I have been in contact with Greater Manchester Police and will continue to support them in any way I can as their investigation continues. They have assured me that this is being treated as an isolated incident, with no wider threat to the public, and a swift arrest has already been made. A full investigation is underway and a scene remains in place.

I also want to thank all those from Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, and North West Ambulance Service who responded so quickly and professionally this morning. Their work in such difficult circumstances deserves our full support.

I know many residents will have concerns following today’s events. There will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days, and I would encourage anyone with questions or information to speak with officers or contact GMP directly.

If you have any information that might help the investigation, please contact police on 101 quoting log number 726 of 16/04/25, or report it online at www.gmp.police.uk.

This is a very difficult day for Gatley. My thoughts remain with all those affected.

Tom
