Tom Morrison launches petition to save local ticket offices
Last week, rail firms announced plans for the mass closure of England’s ticket offices.
The move, pushed by the Government, was confirmed by the Rail Delivery Group. Train operators told staff last Wednesday morning of proposals to shut down almost all of the 1,007 remaining offices, including Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme, Davenport, Gatley & Heald Green.
Railway station ticket offices are important to so many people, particularly the disabled and the elderly.
At the end of last year Liberal Democrats on Stockport Council passed a motion expressing their opposition to any future closures to both the government and local train operators.
"This would be a huge blow to rail users, and would reduce safety for people using the railway stations. As somebody who uses the train regularly, I see how busy and how well used ticket offices are" said Tom.
"I have started a petition to keep our local ticket offices open and support the excellent people who work in them" he added.
