Tom Morrison MP: Statement on Israel/Gaza Ceasefire
A Step Forward, But the Real Work Begins Now
A ceasefire agreement has been reached—an important and necessary step, but one that remains fragile. Too many ceasefires in this conflict have collapsed before, and we cannot afford for this to be another fleeting pause before further violence. The real work begins now. Aid must reach those in desperate need, hostages must be released, and a path to a just and lasting peace must be secured.
We can only hope that this will finally be the moment when the ceasefire holds. The scale of suffering in Gaza is beyond words—famine and disease are spreading, infrastructure is in ruins, and millions are left with nothing. The humanitarian crisis is worsening every day, and unless urgent steps are taken to provide immediate aid and begin rebuilding, the suffering will only deepen.
The UK has a role to play. That’s why I continue to call for an immediate and full arms embargo on Israel and have sponsored Layla Moran’s Early Day Motion demanding an end to arms exports and greater transparency on legal guidance. We cannot be complicit in actions that breach international law. Our government must do more to support diplomacy, humanitarian relief, and a long-term resolution.
Since being elected, I have pushed for peace in the Middle East, speaking in debates, supporting motions, and advocating for action. I will keep using my voice to push for lasting solutions. The UK must take responsibility in securing a ceasefire that endures, ensuring Israel’s withdrawal from occupied territories, and guaranteeing that all hostages—both Israeli and Palestinian—are returned safely.
This war cannot be allowed to continue in endless cycles of destruction. The only true path forward is a sustainable, peaceful two-state solution—one that guarantees security, dignity, and justice for all. But peace does not come from words alone. It requires commitment, international leadership, and most of all, action.
This ceasefire is a step in the right direction—but now, we must fight to ensure it leads to something real and lasting. The people of Israel and Palestine deserve nothing less.
