Tom Morrison won't stop campaigning until Cheadle Train Station is built

At today’s Treasury Questions in Parliament, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Darren Jones MP, refused to commit Government funding for Cheadle Train Station when asked by Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Cheadle Tom Morrison.

Tom Morrison, putting forward the question asked the following: Recent calls of cuts to infrastructure spending has caused concern for Cheadle’s residents in relation to the delivery of Cheadle Train Station, can the Minister confirm that Cheadle Train Station is safe and will go ahead?

Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Darren Jones MP refused to comment on Cheadle Train Station, leaving local residents still none this wiser as to whether the project will go ahead.

Tom Morrison MP said “This is incredibly disappointing from the Government. Even though planning has been granted, and the money previously promised, Ministers refuse to commit to Cheadle Train Station. Residents want a clear answer, but unfortunately, we are yet to have it.

Everyone I’ve spoken to in Cheadle and the surrounding areas agree that the station would be great for Cheadle, the high street and its businesses. It is surprising that given this Government is so focused on growth that they won’t back a project that would be so beneficial for Cheadle. The Government needs to put its money where its mouth is, and immediately announce the station plan will go ahead.”
